How Can We Help?

Mike Loomis learned to fly at his beloved Smith Field Airport (KSMD) in Fort Wayne, soloing in the Summer of 1976 while he was in college, and obtaining his Private Pilot license two years later. When the airport was in trouble from an announcement that it would be closed 27 years later, Mike represented the group SAFE (Smith Airfield ForEver) and they successfully saved Smith Field in 2003. Supporters convinced the Fort Wayne Allen County Airport Authority of SMD’s value and potential.
